“They are like a man building a house,
who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came,
the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was
well built.” -Luke 6:48
What does it mean to have a life built on Jesus? I heard someone say once, “Many people build their lives around Jesus. But that’s very different from building your life upon Jesus. When the storm comes, everything that’s not built on a solid foundation won’t be able to stand. But, if our lives are built on Jesus, our faith will remain.”
Everything in this world will fall away that’s not built on Jesus. That is why He said, “store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” -Matthew 6:20 When the storms come, and we find ourselves shaken, we can always fall back on Jesus. He is the rock that will never fall away. “Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” -Psalm 62:6
If we build our lives on money, we will find that it never satisfies. If we build our lives on relationships, we will find ourselves let down by unmet expectations. If we build our lives on religion, we will find that we’re never good enough. If we build our lives on government promises, we will find ourselves disenchanted by imperfect people. Even still, if we build our lives on having a perfect body, or people's approval, we’ll find that it doesn’t last forever.
What lasts forever? Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. (Rev 1:8) Building our lives on Jesus is the best, most solid investment we can ever make.
